We have to admit, there is something truly beautiful about being able to get outside in the Devon sunshine and explore everything that this great country has to offer. Whilst there are plenty of amazing places to stay during your time in Devon, what if you want to see as much of the county as you possibly can by car?

For these people one of the best options is to think about taking a summer drive around Devon. But, where do you start? To help inspire you to check out the county for yourself, we have put together 3 of the best summer drives that you can experience during your time in Devon.

The wild coasts of Devon

One of the things that Devon is best known for is its beautiful, rugged and breathtaking coast. If you really want to enjoy every single part of the coast, then you are going to need to tackle this 120 mile round trip. You launch from Topsham, before heading along the A379, popping to Dawlish and Teignmouth. You will also pass through Torquay and Paignton on your travels too.

The Kingswear Lower Ferry will take you to Dartmouth, where you will then head up hills to Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands too. You will see Torcros before heading back into Dartmoor and finishing off at Moreton Hampstead.

Dartmoor National Park

One of the most charming parts of Devon has to be the Dartmoor National Park. Here you will not only find beautifully quaint little villages that are literally picture perfect, but you will also see some fascinating forests and natural landscapes too. You can drive through Dartmoor should you wish. The driving route for this particular road trip is North Bovey, Grimspound, Wistman’s Wood, Dartmoor Prison, Dartmoor, Buckland in the Moor, Ashburton, Widecombe in the Moor, Hound Tor and North Bovey.

If you do decide to take this route, then you will absolutely see everything that Dartmoor has to offer those who choose it as their road trip destination.

Drive from Devon to Cornwall

Another great thing about Devon is its close proximity to Cornwall, meaning that you can easily get between the two. In fact, the A39 is not only one of the longest roads in the South West, but it is also one of the most beautiful too. You can choose to drive the whole length of it, however, one of the most beautiful stretches just happens to be the one between Devon and Cornwall. It starts off at Barnstaple, taking in Bideford, and if you stick to the road then you can also get yourself to Newquay.

All of which make for one of those road trips that you will absolutely never forget.

Feeling inspired? Well, make sure that your car has plenty of petrol and get yourself to Devon. We can promise you not only a warm welcome, but some fantastic scenery and some views that you will never ever forget.
