When you look at the automobile industry now, you are spoiled for choice. There are so many British manufacturers of beautiful, stylish and efficient cars to choose from. Classic cars have inspired the creation of newer models today, but sometimes you can’t beat the character, rarity and feel of a classic car.
We have selected our top five classic cars that could only have been built in Britain, check out our entire list and see which one you recognise.
The Mini
When you think of classic cars that were built in Britain, your mind might instantly go to the recognisable Mini. The Mini was made in England, at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham, and the first Mini was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation back in 1959.
The designer of the Mini was Sir Alec Issigonis, and the vehicle itself is a small economy car that became a pop culture icon of the 1960s.
Rolls Royce Phantom
Rolls Royce Motor Cars Limited is a British automobile maker known for their luxurious and high-quality vehicles. This company had to make it onto our list as it has created some stunning, classic cars. When you think about classic cars, in general, you might picture the traditional, sleek black Rolls Royce Phantom. This classic British car screams prestige, and some say it follows the style of a traditional horse-drawn carriage, due to its classic interior of curved seats made from leather.
Aston Martin DB5
Chances are you will recognise this car as the ‘James Bond’ car. The Aston Martin was manufactured in 1964, in England but, was designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. The vehicle itself features two doors, a 4.0 L engine and even has reclining seats for comfort.
Now, there are variations of this model; however, every classic car lover will hold a special place in their heart for this iconic vehicle.
Jaguar XK120
The British automotive company, Jaguar, was founded in 1922 and is a multinational car manufacturer that specialises in luxury vehicles. One of those distinctive luxury vehicles is the classic car known as the Jaguar XK120. The sleek, two-seater sports car was created in 1948 and had a 3.4 L XK I6 engine as well as detachable side-screens.
Bentley Blower No.1
The last classic car on our list comes from the British manufacturer, Bentley Motors Limited. Again, this company specialises in luxury cars and takes pride in its high-quality designs. The classic Bentley car we want to mention is the racing car known as the Bentley Blower, which has a canvas top that stretches over a lightweight aluminium frame.
This two-seat racing car has a distinctive design that any collector of classic cars would want.
